Last night, I caught the season premiere of Bill Moyers’ Journal. Moyers has been the focus of a lot of blogosphere buzz (and a retaliatory Googlebomb) for Buying the War, which examines journalistic failures leading up to the invasion of Iraq. Moyers continues his examination of journalism by interviewing two people changing how people get their news — Josh Marshall of TPM Media and Jon Stewart of The Daily Show.
Both interviews are solid and Moyers talks with both of them as someone who is a part of their audience and understands the factors driving their work. The result is one of the most revelatory interviews I’ve seen with Stewart. Crooks and Liars has a sample clip of the interview but the whole show is worth watching. Check your local PBS listings to see if it gets rerun.

It’s sooo wonderful to see Bill Moyers back on the air. I’ve always thought of this man in terms of being a “moral compass” for many people, regardless of their political persuasion.
He always takes the high ground, and his first show (as well as his interview with Stewart on Friday)was a wonderful way of re-introducing himself to a new generation of youth who truly want to deal with issues from a moral perspective, not a religious or political one. His approach is highly unique in this day and age.
I look forward to his ongoing weekly programs and hope that PBS doesn’t for any reason succumb to the corporate types who may try to derail his shows.
Interestingly, I haven’t heard anything from the “news” media about the issues he discussed last Wednesday. It’s like it didn’t happen, or, worse, that they don’t think they’re part of the problem. What asses. Like, if they don’t talk about it….well, it’ll just go away.
Please keep up the good work, Bill. Just read the last few columns from the Daily Howler……a four parter on the “east coast Irish Catholics” that they refer to on NBC. None of them has said a word on their shows…..I guess ignorance is bliss works for them!! They should all be ashamed….that’s whers morality comes in and I think they’ve lost their compasses for good!

Bill Moyers’ Journal was fabulous tonight - May 11, 07 - He brought home the truth of this Iraq war and how is has practically destroyed our faith and hope in America’s government. If Bill Moyers had been able to air his thoughts on national television several years ago perhaps he could have saved this country from falling prey to one of the worst - if not THE worst - leader we have ever elected. No doubt this current president won through a corrupt election progress. Let us just hope that November 2008 will not be too late to elect a leader with the intelligence to right the wrongs and heal the breaches of trust brought on by the current administration.
